Features[edit | edit source]

  • Subtle movement: moving on a low speed doesn't reduce your camouflage factor. .
  • Designated target: vehicle has the ability to designate targets that are within line of sight and vision range. Designated targets are called out and takes increased damage.
  • Recon package: this vehicle's recon package provides an improved vision range when stationary.
  • Multi turret: this vehicle has several turrets that can be switched while out of combat.

Player Recommendations[edit | edit source]

Featuring excellent mobility and a potent ATGM launcher, the VBL TOW is an ATGM-only vehicle which functions as a long-range sniper. With excellent camouflage, a good view range, and excellent gun depression, the VBL TOW is tailor made for long range ridge poking and sniping, relying on its camo rating and mobility to make up for the fact that its armor is ineffective against many weapons.

Pros and Cons[edit | edit source]

Pros[edit | edit source]

  • Excellent camouflage rating
  • Very good mobility
  • Very good gun depression
  • High damage ATGM
  • Great DPM for 20mm autocannon. Almost instant reload. Extremely high ROF. Huge clip.
  • Looks cute, but dangerous
  • Invisible movement

Cons[edit | edit source]

  • Negligible armor
  • Low hit points
  • Low survivability
  • TOW makes it into an inferior version of "Swingfire"

Upgrade Suggestions[edit | edit source]

Because of the VBL TOW’s reliance on firepower and mobility, upgrading to the BGM-71C TOW ATGM and M14 TCI Turbo-diesel Engine should be an early priority.

Retrofit Suggestions[edit | edit source]

  • Advanced Muzzle Reference System
  • Augmented Optics
  • Improved Gun Breech
  • Improved Pioneer Tool Kit

Commander and Crew Skill Suggestions[edit | edit source]

  • Commander: Sabrina Washington, to improve the camo rating, view range, and crew stats
  • Driver: Spin to Win, Off-Road Driving
  • Gunner: Sharpshooter, Do the Twist
  • Loader: Rapid Fire, Explosive Shells/Preparation

The VBL is a light, four-wheeled armored fighting vehicle, designed for multiple roles while offering its crew basic small arms protection. It is a compact machine, capable of great speeds and a wide variety of duties, including reconnaissance, liaison tasks or even armored vehicle killing.

It was developed by Panhard in the late 1980s and its designation stands for Véhicule Blindé Léger (Light Armored Vehicle). In a way it was designed for the "old" type of war, symmetric warfare where units in such vehicles wouldn't be the most common target of enemy attention. The original purpose of the program was to replace the American Jeep vehicles still in French service in the late 1970s and to provide the French army with a light and affordable platform for multiple weapons systems.

The VBL was accepted in French service in 1990 and has found its way to around a dozen (mostly African) countries. It's a very popular export item thanks to its ruggedness and versatility. The biggest operators include France (approximately 1400 in service), Greece, and Oman. All in all, around 2400 were built. Over the years, the VBLs in French service were mostly involved in peacekeeping operations for the United Nations, such as those in former Yugoslavia, Lebanon and Somalia, but some saw service in Mali, the Ivory Coast and Afghanistan. The Nigerians used VBLs in counter-insurgency operations as light fighting vehicles (the recon variant armed with a Browning M2 .50 caliber heavy machinegun).

This particular model features either a 20mm autocannon turret or a TOW ATGM launcher. The TOW variant is used by Greece.
