==History== Class: Main Battle Tank (Prototype)
Developed: 2011-2016
Service: N/A
Vehicles Built: 1
Operators: N/A The M60A3 SLEP (Service Life Extension Program) was a Raytheon prototype of an upgrade kit for the venerable M60A3 tank, which is currently still in service in a number of countries all across the world despite the first vehicles of this type rolling off the assembly lines more than four decades ago. The idea was to make the M60A3 viable for the 21st century battlefield at a fraction of the cost of a new MBT with the main upgrades include replacing the old 105mm M68 gun with the 120mm M256 smoothbore, an upgrade engine to 950hp, an upgraded FCS and an additional armor kit consisting of spaced and slat armor. The first SLEP prototype was the 2011 AMBT by a Turkish company called StandartBio, but the project failed to attract any attention. Raytheon likely obtained the rights to it afterwards, unveiling its own SLEP prototype in 2016. Unfortunately, despite some interest, no orders have been confirmed to date and the program was likely shelved.
