The M1A2 Abrams is a Tier 8 progression Main Battle Tank under Sophie Wölfli's dealership.

History[ | ]

Class: Main Battle Tank
Developed: 1988-1992
Service: 1992+
Vehicles Built: cca 2500
Operators: USA, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia

The Abrams Main Battle Tank is the current service MBT of the U.S. Army and several other countries. It was developed in the 1970s to replace the aging Patton series in American service. Unlike the failed MBT-70 project, the downfall of which was the widespread use of experimental technologies along with an extremely high price tag, the Abrams was designed to use modern but affordable and reliable components. What made it different from the Patton series was the use of Chobham composite armor and a gas turbine for propulsion, earning it the nickname "Whispering Death".

The M1A2 is the third and final major production version of the Abrams from 1992. The tank received considerably thicker frontal armor with Depleted Uranium inlays, making it, at the time, resistant to pretty much anything the Russians could have fielded. The tank also received an independent thermal imager for its commander (known as the CITV) and, along with it, the ability for the tank to engage two targets in rapid succession. Most of the existing M1A2s were upgraded from the older Abrams models and a few hundred were also exported to America's allies in the Middle East. In U.S. service, the Abrams has been upgraded over the 1990s and 2000s with new electronics, a RCWS, upgraded transmission and the ability to carry an urban fighting kit known as TUSK with ERA elements.
