The Leopard Evolution MBT is an upgrade of the Leopard 2A4 variant by IBD Deisenroth from 2007 to make the two decades old vehicle meet the requirements of modern battlefields. The most important part of the upgrade is the Advanced Modular Armor Protection Armor (AMAP), offering increased protection levels at a cost of 10 extra tons. The only customer of this upgrade kit to this day is Singapore with 94 thus upgraded tanks delivered between 2006 and 2009. A similar upgrade kit intended for other Leopard 2 variants, called Evolution II, was unveiled in 2012.

This MBT's front is protected by layered steel with air gaps, which offers excellent protection against HEAT shells and ATGMs. Additionally, the protection was enhanced by an advanced armor kit intended for urban combat.
