The Lynx by Rheinmetall is one of the most modern infantry fighting vehicles currently offered. The idea behind it was to offer a more affordable alternative to various over-engineered modern IFVs such as the Puma. Not necessarily worse, just less complex and with significantly lower lifetime costs. The first, lighter version of this private venture (KF31) appeared at the Eurosatory 2016 expo in France. Two years later, in 2018, another model was unveiled – the significantly heavier KF41 with correspondingly improved protection levels.

The vehicle itself was designed by Rheinmetall engineers to be as modular and easy to maintain as possible while offering unparalleled configurability. 218 KF41 Lynx IFVs were ordered by Hungary in 2020 to replace its obsolete fleet of BMPs as a part of the Zrinyi 2026 re-armament program. The production version is, however, different from the earlier prototype.

Vehicle Traits[ | ]

  • Harder to Spot: When moving slowly, this vehicle does not lose any camouflage and can effectively creep around.
  • NERA: This vehicle's ablative armor provides additional protection, but deteriorates with each hit taken.
  • Programmable Ammunition: Special ammunition type that explodes over a target, dealing significant damage to poorly armored top areas such as the engine deck.
  • Weapon Diversity: This vehicle has several weapons or mode of fire options that you can switch between in battle.
  • PELE Rounds: This vehicle can fire special Penetrator with Lateral Effect rounds. These can penetrate thick armor and deal extra damage to the crew and internal components.
  • Troop Compartment: This vehicle features a troop compartment, allowing you to repair your modules faster and to capture objectives more effectively.

This vehicle's steel hull is relatively thin by itself, but it is covered by additional NERA modules, bringing its protection levels to those of heavier AFVs. NERA modules offer excellent protection at the beginning of a match, but their protection levels decrease with damage taken.
