Built by the U.K. Vickers company as redesign of the Challenger 1, this Main Battle Tank offers significant armor improvements over its predecessor. Despite its age, the Challenger 2 is still considered one of the best protected vehicles in the world. One particular Challenger 2 MBT was able to withstand no fewer than 70 RPG hits during the 2003 War in Iraq. Over 400 units have been produced in total and are expected to continue serving for several more decades.

Eclipse Lore: Perihelion's unique Challenger 2 is the property of an Irish crew led by John O'Sullivan, veterans of the Irish New Troubles. How the Challenger came into his possession is unclear but the crew clearly has deep bonds with their homeland. The tank is adorned with a stylized Irish oak as well as various folklore symbols. The name refers to an ancient Irish war cry “Faugh a Ballagh”, which is an anglicization of the phrase fág an bealach, meaning “clear the way.”
