This Russian-developed vehicle, also called the Terminator, was designed to accompany tanks and protect them against various non-MBT threats. It combines the benefits of an Armored Fighting Vehicle with the protection and maneuverability of a Main Battle Tank. This particular model was one of the earliest prototypes shown to the public and featured a single 30mm autocannon along with a Kornet-E ATGM launcher with four tubes. It did not catch any attention and was almost immediately upgraded to the twin-autocannon configuration everyone is so familiar with.

The BMPT series of vehicles offers a combination of a MBT-class hull with composite armor, an unmanned turret that takes reduced damage, and a third generation ERA kit, offering excellent protection against standard HEAT rounds or warheads, and partial protection against kinetic rounds and tandem HEAT warheads.
