Features[edit | edit source]
- Subtle movement: moving on a low speed doesn't reduce your camouflage factor.
- Adjustable suspension: allows you to adjust ground clearance manually.
- Waterproof: this vehicle can remain longer under water.
Player Recommendations[edit | edit source]
Continuing the BMD tradition of high firepower on a light frame, the BMD-4 improves on these qualities, with some added benefits. Faster than most other BMD models thanks to an improved engine, and having a versatile 30mm/100mm combination, the BMD-4 remains a mobile flanker, capable of dealing significant damage to the sides and rears of unsuspecting vehicles.
Pros and Cons[edit | edit source]
Pros[edit | edit source]
- High mobility
- Low profile
- Powerful ATGM
Cons[edit | edit source]
- 100mm cannon can only fire HE shells
- 30mm autocannon is ineffective against all but the rears of most vehicles.
- Minimal armor
Upgrade Suggestions[edit | edit source]
Upgrading to the UTD-29 Diesel Engine will heavily improve the acceleration of the BMD-4, allowing for easier flanking maneuvers. The Improved Fire Control System, Improved Thermal Sights, and Improved Autoloader will heavily increase effective firepower, so should be researched early.
Retrofit Suggestions[edit | edit source]
- Advanced Fire Control
- Advanced Muzzle Reference System
- Electro-Optical Absorbing Paint
- Augmented Optics
Commander and Crew Skill Suggestions[edit | edit source]
- Commander: Sabrina Washington, for improvements to camo rating, view range, and accuracy
- Driver: Smooth Ride, Off-Road Driving
- Gunner: Quick Draw, Sharpshooter

The BMD-4’s aluminum chassis, which comes from the BMD-3, has marginal frontal protection against light autocannon fire, while its steel turret provides slightly better protection. |

History[edit | edit source]
Class: Airborne Infantry Fighting Vehicle
Developed: 1998-2004
Service: 2004+
Vehicles Built: estimates vary from 14 to 60
Operators: Russia
This is the last of the airborne IFVs, developed for the Russian Airborne forces. Facing heavy combat losses in Chechnya as well as other conflicts, the Russians naturally realized that the BMD-1 and BMD-2 IFVs were far too fragile for what they were used. At the same time, they were too small to be upgraded with more armor and heavier weapons, resulting in a development of a larger chassis, which would become the BMD-3 IFV. THe BMD-3 was, however, expensive and only available in very limited numbers in the 1990s. It was also only armed with the same firepower as the BMD-2, which is why, as the next step, its firepower was increased by replacing the 30mm weapons module with a 100mm gun and 30mm autocannon combination installed in a new combat module called "Bakhcha-U". This version received the BMD-4 designation and while the firepower improved compared to its predecessor, the BMD-4 suffered from a large number of teething issues and the Airborne was never really happy with it, leading to, once again, very small production numbers.
