Contents
Features[edit | edit source]
- Subtle movement: moving on a low speed doesn't reduce your camouflage factor.
- Adjustable suspension: allows you to adjust ground clearance manually.
- Waterproof: this vehicle can remain longer under water.
Player Recommendations[edit | edit source]
At its core, this vehicle has a distinct difference from the previous BMD models: a 30mm autocannon, instead of the low velocity 73mm gun. Instead of two large damage hits, the BMD-2 relies on a single large damage hit from its ATGM launcher, and a burst of low damage hits from its 30mm. This makes it important to flank heavily armored vehicles, even more so than with the BMD-1 and BMD-1P.
Pros and Cons[edit | edit source]
Pros[edit | edit source]
- Low profile
- Good mobility
- Excellent gun depression, compared to BMD-1 series
Cons[edit | edit source]
- Zero effective armor
- Poor penetration on 30mm forces you to get behind targets
- Stock engine can feel sluggish
Upgrade Suggestions[edit | edit source]
Upgrading to the 5D20-300 Diesel Engine will improve mobility on the battlefield, compared to the stock engine. The BPK-2-42 Sight, Improved Ammo Feeder, and respective ammunition upgrades will significantly increase the firepower of the vehicle.
Retrofit Suggestions[edit | edit source]
- Advanced Fire Control
- Improved Gun Breech
- Electro-Optical Absorbing Paint
- Augmented Optics
Commander and Crew Skill Suggestions[edit | edit source]
- Commander: Sabrina Washington, for improvements to camo rating, view range, and accuracy
- Driver: Smooth Ride, Off-Road Driving
- Gunner: Quick Draw, Sharpshooter

The BMD-2 is only a firepower upgrade from the previous design, and as such provides negligible protection against even light autocannon fire. |

History[edit | edit source]
Class: Airborne Infantry Fighting Vehicle
Developed: 1983-1985
Service: 1985+
Vehicles Built: cca 1000 (estimates vary)
Operators: Russia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan
This Soviet-era airborne IFV was developed as an update and replacement for the BMD-1. The relationship between BMD-1 and BMD-2 is similar to the one between the BMP-1 and BMP-2 variants. The original 73mm gun was large, but it had serious flaws and was not really effective against tanks. Additionally, one of the lessons learned from the war in Afghanistan was that in order to be effective in cities and mountains, Soviet AFVs need more gun elevation. And, last but not least, when facing the AirLand Battle doctrine, the Soviets found themselves in need of additional anti-helicopter firepower. As a result, the 73mm 2A73 Grom cannon was replaced by a 30mm 2A42 autocannon with excellent gun elevation. The BMD-2 took part in several conflicts along with the Russian Airborne forces, but, unlike the BMD-1, it wasn't really widespread and retained its problematic combat value in asymmetric warfare due to its thin armor. Despite this flaw, it remains in service in Russia to this day.
