Stub An Active Protection System, or APS in short, is a defensive system designed to intercept or impede incoming hostile anti-tank guided missiles, and thereby protecting a vehicle that it is equipped on from such threats. There are two types of APS in Armored Warfare: Hard-Kill APS and Soft-Kill APS. In addition to their function to intercept or impede incoming missiles, both types of APS also allow a player to be informed such threats via an icon on the UI in battle. APS appears as a module on a vehicle that can be damaged or destroyed in battle; a destroyed APS cannot function until it is repaired. ==Hard-Kill APS== Hard-Kill APS automatically destroys an incoming missile that comes into its range. It has a set number of charges which differ from vehicle to vehicle. While most vehicles equipped with Hard-Kill APS can intercept missiles from all angles, the CV90120 Ghost is an exception, as it can only intercept missiles within 60° of its frontal arc. Upon a successful interception, the APS consumes one charge and undergoes a cooldown. Hard-Kill APS can only intercept and destroy one missile at a time, therefore it cannot defend against multiple missiles at the same time. Hard-Kill also cannot intercept kinetic missiles. ===Supercharged Hard-Kill APS=== Vehicles such as T-14 Armata and Merkava Mk.4M Barak have the option to equip the Supercharged Hard-Kill APS active ability. When activated manually, the APS acts as a powerful shield that can destroy all incoming hostile projectiles (including shells and rockets) of 100mm in caliber or greater within a short period of time during its activation, consuming one APS charge per interception during the process. Cooldown time between interceptions is also reduced dramatically, but it is still possible for a projectile to get through should the vehicle come under saturated fire. A vehicle with Supercharged Hard-Kill APS ability activated has a visible "aura" surrounding it. ==Soft-Kill APS== Soft-Kill APS works constantly within a vehicle's specific range. When a missile enters within the range of a Soft-Kill APS, it suffers an increase in noise as well as a reduction in agility, making it harder, but not impossible, to hit its intended target. Effects imbued by multiple vehicles equipped with Soft-Kill APS in vicinity can stack, which can in turn impede incoming missiles with much greater result. As with Hard-Kill APS, Soft-Kill APS cannot impede kinetic missiles. ===Supercharged Soft-Kill APS=== Vehicles such as T-90A and BMPT-72 Terminator 2 have the option to equip the Supercharged Soft-Kill APS active ability. When activated manually, the APS produces a visible shield that can divert all incoming missiles away from the vehicle within a short period of time.
